List of Colorado Marijuana Delivery Services – What's Legal and What's Not

Marijuana delivery is legal in Colorado, well sort of.  It depends on where you are, and it depends on what type of marijuana you are purchasing. Here's what you should know about legal delivery services in Colorado and what could change in the near future. As of November 1st, 2020, the delivery of medical marijuana is only legal in the areas of Boulder and Longmont. However, make sure your delivery service is licensed! See a list of licensed dispensaries certified to deliver at the bottom of the article. Delivery certifications are only are being issued to storefront dispensaries.

According to the Longmont Times Call, the City Council recently approved that medical marijuana dispensaries in Boulder County with a state-issued license can deliver to medical marijuana patients. It must only be delivered to their homes and not to other areas like bars, work, etc. This is medical marijuana only, not recreational. The businesses also have to be certified by the city of Longmont.

When it comes to getting cannabis delivered in Denver, it is not legal to have any type of marijuana delivered as of 2020. If you go online and you see any delivery company that offers recreational or medical in Denver, they are breaking the law.

We spoke to Eric Escudero, Director of Communications, Marketing and Outreach for Denver’s Department of Excise & Licenses and Office of Marijuana Policy.

Escudero says, right now Denver is considering whether to opt-in to medical and recreational delivery.

Escudero says, "We have been meeting for the past few months and are working on recommendations for the Mayor and City Council to review."

What Denver did is fund a report to see if there is equitable access right now.

"Social equity is one of the top priorities when it comes to cannabis regulations for the City and County of Denver. We want to take a look at what does the industry look like now and want to make sure there is equitable access to the industry, meaning we are looking at people who are disproportionately negatively impacted by marijuana prohibition and what barriers have they faced," Escudero said.

Escudero also says there should be a decision in November about what Denver will do when it comes to cannabis delivery in 2021 but officials in his department have worked hard on the process to make sure they have great rules in place and protections for youth.

Also, there is now a funding issue. Covid-19 has negatively impacted city and state funding. "A big part of our tax base is restaurants etc. and they have been dramatically impacted. So now the city of Denver is looking for ways of how to fund a program," Escudero added.

Across the state of Colorado, medical marijuana operations were allowed to apply for delivery in 2020 in cities that opted into the new law.  Stores offering recreational marijuana must wait until 2021 to apply for delivery only in cities that opt into the option.
