Grape Kush Strain
- 17.8% THC
- 2.2% CBD
- 0.15% CBN
Grape Kush is a strain that lives up to its name. This indica dominant hybrid is related to Blueberry, and it shows in the flavor profile. These dark green buds present with a little purple, making this cannabis strain as visually attractive as it is potent. Expect a spacey, free-floating high that creeps up on you. Grape Kush is great for a relaxing evening smoke. This strain isn't too popular on dispensary shelves, but seeds are readily available from the original breeders. Grape Kush is not recommended for beginners, due to its high THC and potential for inducing couch lock.
Overview of Grape Kush
Grape Kush is a hybrid strain, with genetics weighing in at 60% indica and 40% sativa. The indica dominance extends to its phenotype as well, producing small to medium rounded buds. While Grape Kush won't win any size contests, the nugs are nice and dense with sticky resin.
The signature of this strain is the purple coloring bestowed by anthocyanin and cold climate during the vegetative stage of growth. In contrast with the red-orange pistils and thick carpet of trichomes, the coloring of Grape Kush is nothing short of gorgeous.
Grape Kush should smell unmistakably of grapes with a sour and tangy zing. Thanks to its Blueberry heritage, undertones of sweet berry can be found, alongside the scent of pine and earth. Its smoke is light and a little sweet, without a harsh afterburn.
The THC content of Grape Kush can vary quite a lot, from 15% all the way up to 30% in some batches. Its CBD content is not high, maxing out at about 0.65%.
Potential Positive Effects of Grape Kush
Part of Grape Kush's appeal is its balanced high. This strain goes straight to your head, with a spacey energy that's focused near the eyes and temples. While Grape Kush is great for creative thinking, the extra imagination power does not translate to improved focus. You may find your mind drifting far and wide, so this strain is best saved for moments where concentration is not required.
Potential Negative Effects of Grape Kush
The danger of true couch lock is strong with this strain! Users may experience dry eyes and thirst.
Lineage of Grape Kush
Grape Kush comes from a classic favorite, and a flavorful hybrid. It's a cross between Pre-98 Bubba Kush and Romulan Grapefruit, bred by Cali Connection. They're the same people that brought us the mind-blowing Alien strains (like Alien OG and Sour Alien), and Grape Kush is another of their potent hits.
Growing Grape Kush
Luckily for home growers everywhere, Grape Kush seeds can be purchased directly from Cali Connection. It can be grown outdoors, but it requires a climate more humid than average. For optimum growth, Grape Kush needs a range of daytime temperatures between 70-80°F. This strain was bred to be hardy and can certainly take a little variation on these requirements.
Flowering time is eight to nine weeks if you're growing indoors, and you can expect about 14 ounces of yield per square meter of growth. If you're trying to grow stealthily, be warned: Grape Kush is known for being an extremely pungent grow. This isn't a strain you can grow in secret!
Where to Find Grape Kush
Given Grape Kush's origins, it's no surprise to find that it's most popular at dispensaries in California. While it has spread up the coast to Oregon and Washington, it's still rather difficult to find on dispensary shelves elsewhere.
